University College Northampton
The University UCN is located in Northampton, an expanding town in the very centre of England. There is easy access from the M1, A14, or by rail from London (Euston) or Birmingham. The University College has approximately 10,000 students. History is taught mainly at the Park Campus site. Of recent construction, this purpose-built campus is well-located in the northern part of town and is much admired by those who visit it. All first year students are offered places in University accommodation. There are between 40 and 60 full-time history students in each year, some of whom are studying only history, others of whom are taking it as part of a broader degree programme. The student come from all parts of the United Kingdom, as well as from Europe and America. The students encompass all age groups and about 60 percent are female. History at Northampton The History Department at UCN is made up of a young and friendly team that offers a wide selection of courses on British, European, Colonial and World history. In addition, we offer courses on several periods of history - medieval, early modern and modern - as well as on several popular themes, such as the history of crime or women's history. Students can study history as part of a single honours degree, in which case history is their main focus, or as part of a combined honours programme, in which instance history is linked with another subject of the student's choice, such as Politics, American Studies, Criminology, or English.
